DAY 22 OF 31
Lizzie Velasquez’s Challenge: Born Beautiful
Today’s challenge is about embracing differences. We're all different (like snowflakes!) and we were born that way. That's why we want you to post a baby photo for #tbt and tell us what makes YOU unique and why it works for you w/ #MonthOfAction. Don’t worry -- there’s no such thing as a wrong answer. You’re all beautiful to us!
Born with a rare syndrome that prevents her from gaining weight, Lizzie Velasquez was bullied throughout her childhood for looking different. As a teenager, the bullying reached a new level when she found a video on YouTube labeling her “The World’s Ugliest Woman”. When Lizzie first saw the video, and all the nasty comments that came with it, she was crushed. But soon, the moment became a turning point. Rather than feeling sorry for herself and letting other people define her, Lizzie put her self-worth in her own hands and used the criticism as motivation to find her voice. Now, she has taken her experience public and is inspiring the world as a motivational speaker and anti-bullying activist. Learn more about Lizzie’s story here, then take a page out of her book and embrace your own differences. As Dr. Seuss once said, “Why fit in when you were born to stand out?”
